A Mail Carrier and His Dog

There was the mail carrier, standing beside the mail truck! The mail carrier was on East Elm Street, and he was getting ready to deliver today’s mail.

The stray dog spotted the mail carrier and thought “Here’s my new master” he said to himself, and then he took off after the mail carrier. “Hey, buddy, wait for me” the stray dog said. The stray dog stopped right in front of the mail box, laughing at the mail carrier. “Let’s see you put the mail in the mailbox” The stray dog said.

The mail carrier needed to put the mail into the mail box that the stray dog was standing in front of. The mail carrier decided to try and talk to the dog before attempting to put the mail into the mail box. The mail carrier called out to the stray dog “Here, Doggie! Doggie” he said.

The stray dog stood straight up, teeth barred, growling, “Woof-Woof, I’m going to bit you” he replied.

The mail carrier took off running with the stray dog snipping at his heels. “All of a sudden the mail carrier stopped.”

“Why did you stop?” A lady asked?

A man said, “the mail carrier stopped because of a stray dog. The dog is in front of the mail box.”

The mail carrier called out to the stray dog again, “Here, Doggie! Doggie” the mail carrier said.

The stray dog would not move. He would not get out of the way. “Ruff-Ruff, I’m not moving from this spot” the stray dog replied.

A car came by and the driver beeped his horn. Beep, beep, beep.

But the stray dog would not get out of the way “I am not moving, so beep all you want” the stray dog said.

A little boy shouted, “Shoo! Shoo.”

But the stray dog would not move “No, I am not moving, so you move” the stray dog replied.

The mail carrier  decided that he could not trust the stray dog, he was worried that the stray dog would bit him. The mail carrier decided to give the stray dog a bone. “Here, Doggie! Doggie” the mail carrier said.

The stray dog walked up to the mail carrier and wagged his tail like nothing had happened. The stray dog responded with “Now your talking” he replied. The stray dog licked the mail carriers hand.

The mail carrier felt sorry for the stray dog and decided to try to pick  up the stray dog. “Here, Doggie! Doggie” the mail carrier said.

The stray dog jumped so fast, he thought he was going to have a heart attack. And then he felt hands, surrounding, and lifting him! The touch of the mail carrier reaching for him and hugging him close. “Hello” the mail carrier said.

The stray dog responded by “licking the mail carriers hands, and said “hello, master” the stray dog replied.

Everyone watched and waited.

The mail carrier patted the stray dog, Pat, pat, “Good dog” the mail carrier said.

The dog smiled at the mail carrier and said “Lets go home” the stray dog said.

Everyone clapped. “Good dog” they said.
